I know the PS3 will update the system to play the latest blu ray movie without requiring a separate firmware download but I have a Samsung BD-UP5000 and it does not update. I am looking for another player but want to get one that will update automatically as the new discs require it.

From what I see blu rays are expensive and I don’t want to buy one if all the dvds I have will be useless.

PErsonally, I prefer DVD to Blu-Ray. DVD’s are cheaper which makes them more acessible and they fit with today’s economy. But I am afraid that Blu-Ray will rise over them and lead them to extonction, just like the VHS.
