Ah Derrrrrrrrrrrrrr asked:

I just bought a Samsung Blu Ray player and connected it to my HDTV through an HDMI cable. When I turn on the Blu Ray player, the Samsung logo appears on my tv screen for a couple of seconds and then disappears. Afterwards, nothing else appears on my tv screen even when I put a disc into my Blu Ray player. What’s going on?

    What brand is your TV?

If you are seeing the logo, you have clearly switched to the right input (though you do not say so).

HDMI sends not only audio and video data but control signals as well. All that I can think of is that you are having some incompatibility issue possibly involving these control signals.

Go into the setup menu for both devices and see how both are set up. Ideally, the blu-ray sends the control signals to the TV and the TV knows how to react and all is well. However, if one of them is not reacting correctly, you may have to turn it off on both devices.

Even if your TV is HD, that doesn’t mean it’s HDCP compliant. Check your TV specs and see if it’s indicates that it’s 100% compliant. Also, check the HDMI spec of your TV versus what the HDMI spec is of the player. Your problem most likely is there. The logo showing up is promising, but it going away suggests HDCP issues…
