Because your Sony doesn't decode DTS-HD MA audio, you'll want to buy a receiver that can. I recommend the Onkyo TX-SR606 because it's good to go with all audio formats. It also has 4 HDMI-in ports (switch, not pass through). It's about $350. There are a lot of options when it comes to speakers. If you're on a tight budget I recommend the Polk Audio RM6750 5.1 speaker set. I have it and will attest that for $200 you can do no better. Another option is to buy a receiver-based (rather than player-based) bundled home theater system. In my opinion the best value receiver-based systems are made by Onkyo. Check out the HT-6100. It's based on the TX-SR606, so you have HD audio capability. It's a competively priced 7.1 system.

It will need to have a fiber optic digital input( almost all have this) there is a digital audio output on the back of the blu-ray player. You will need to get the fiber optic cable to connect the two and that is it...hope that helps.

You need an A/V receiver and surround sound speakers. That said, some "Home Theater in a Box" (HTIB) systems with a built in DVD player will cost less than a receiver and speakers bought separately (although performance may not be as good). So, look for a receiver/5.1 speaker package. You should be able to get something reasonable for under $500-$600.

I know what your asking, you don't want to buy a htib (home theater in a box) b/c they come with a player. So go that route. They usually have more power & flexibility.
