A1234 asked:

I’m wondering if the PS3s built in Bluray player will deliver the same picture quality as the regular (DVD player style) bluray player. I realize that they are both bluray players but picture quality can be impacted by the electronics etc. I have a hard time believing that the PS3 can deliver the same quality as the deck style player – if it could why would the deck style player cost more and do less?

It is by definition a bluray player. The games that you put in are bluray, and it has hd video out. Playstation makes most of it’s money on games. They took a HUGE hit by selling the consoles at the price they did. They had to sell them at lower prices to get people to buy them, and more importantly the games they sell. I highly doubt that there is any noticeable difference in quality, if any at all. Plus, it plays games and surfs the internet. What more could you want?

PS3 is superior to a standalone Bluray player and costs less and does more.

9 times out of 10 any stand alone player is going to be better than anything in a gaming system. Unless you know what to look for though, you probably won’t be able to tell the difference. Newer players are going to be faster to load the discs and to respond to commands, they will also be more quiet than the PS3. Still I personally would not for any reason buy a separate player if you already have or are planning to get the PS3, as new as this technology is you aren’t going to see a difference worth spending that much extra cash.
