Alice asked:
If not, is there something I can do/get to make it so I can play them on my PS3? Also, would I be able to watch a Japanese DVD on my computer?
I’m fully aware that Blu-Ray and DVDs aren’t the same thing… I’m not really positive how two people came up with the thought that I thought they were the same thing, either….

DVD is not compatible with Blue Ray. They are different recording systems, and a DVD player will not play a Blue Ray disc even though they look the same. It’s sort of like loading an AOHell online email sign-up CD in a movie DVD player.. it “don’t” work.

For DVD’s, you can not play Japanese DVD’s on a US PS3, the US uses Region 1 while Japan uses Region 2, if you find a Japanese movie on a Region 0 DVD, Region 0 is universal and can be played all over the world
As for Blu-Ray, it dosen’t use the Region code numbers that DVD’s do, instead, they use Region letters (I think it’s A thorugh D), and the Region letter for both the US and Japan is Region A, so a Japanese Blu-Ray will work on US Blu-Ray players, therefore, the US PS3 will work with Japanese Blu-Ray discs, but it will only work for Japanese and US movies, you can’t, for example, play a UK Blu-Ray movie
When looking for imports, use these magical numbers and letters
If it’s a DVD with either Region 1 or Region 0, it will work, all others won’t unless you remove the region settings on your console, DVD player, or Computer
If it is a Blu-Ray disc with Region A, it will work, all others won’t unless you remove the region settings on your console, Blu-Ray player, or Computer
As for what discs will work on what…
A DVD will play in a Blu-Ray player, but region protection is still a factor, and a US Blu-Ray player will only play Region 1/0 DVDs
A Blu-Ray disc will NOT play on a DVD player, a Blu-Ray disc holds too much data for a regular DVD laser to read, and instead of using a red beam/ray like DVD’s read a Blu-Ray laser uses a blue beam/ray (really it’s a violet beam/ray, more purplish)
