When will they stop releasing American movies on DVD anymore since Blu-ray shows some popularity?

Malcolm asked:
VHS existed almost 3 decades ago
I guess back in 2005 they no longer release American movies on VHS
Only the cheap VHS tapes are still on the market.
What year do you think?

‘12. I think before they go all blu-ray they have to see that the majority don’t have HDTVs yet

Blu ray is too expensive. People dont want to spend that much money on something thats just a little better. Wait until the price comes down.

My guess is about 7-10 years from know- Right now it’s relatively new and not too many people have blue ray players, so It’ll take a while

I hope they don’t. I don’t really like Blu-ray that much. Somehow it seems to take away from the cinematic atmosphere of the movie by making it look “too real.”
Blu-ray is good for a show like Planet Earth in which the overall quality would greatly increase due to the incredible amount of detail Blu-ray can provide. But just for regular movies, I think DVD’s are just fine.

i will have a guess at not for perhaps eight -10 years.
Most ppl have a dvd player, they are a cheap, hard to copy medium (if cp is on them) and if played on a blu ray player, they get up-scaled.
I suppose when all tv’s are 720p-1080p minimum and blu-rays get 30-45% cheaper people may adopt blu ray as the only medium for home cinema/film watching
The studios want to sell films, what we play them on will dictate what they sell them on
Bluray machines are already hitting budget prices, when they go below £89 mark, most ppl with an HD TV will buy one
The DVD format will still be used for cheap data backup and archiving/previewing a film on smaller screens, perhaps the “floppy disks of tommorow”
guessing!
